Son’s work for breast-cancer awareness is his mother’s legacy

Nicholas Celenza was a fifth grader when his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and told to get her affairs in order. But Elaine Celenza was a strong woman who “wouldn’t let go of life, or let cancer bring her down,” he says. For five years, until her death in February at age 48, she helped patients with the same challenges she faced and raised money to help find a cure.

A South Jersey talk radio personality was found fatally shot Thursday in a bedroom of her Atlantic County home, authorities said. County Prosecutor Ted Housel said a worker called 911 around 11:30 a.m. after he discovered April Kauffman’s body in the home on Woodstock Drive in Linwood. Kauffman, 47, who lived about three blocks from Mainland Regional High School, was shot several times, authorities said.

Former Camden schools official sues over wrongful termination

According to an FBI arrest affidavit, Ruby Marconi, 57, of Shelmire Avenue near Cottage Street, left several threatening messages on U.S. Senator Robert P. Casey Jr.’s U.S. Capitol office telephone on Sept. 16 . A Casey staffer reported the messages to U.S. Capitol Police.

Neshaminy School District teachers, who have been working under the terms of an expired contract for four years, voted Wednesday to lift their controversial “work-to-contract” job action and to authorize their second strike of the school year. There has been no decision on whether the 633 members of the Neshaminy Federation of Teachers will go on strike, union president Louise Boyd said in a statement Thursday. Anderson, 17, who formerly attended the disciplinary Daniel Boone School and lived with his mother on Jackson Street near 4th, on May 4 entered into a negotiated guilty plea to third-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime, abuse of a corpse and related crimes connected to the Nov. 28, 2010 death of Rashida Anderson, 37.
