Maurice Sendak dies at 83; artist and writer best known for "Where the Wild Things Are" May 9th 2012, 07:15 Maurice Sendak, 83, artist and writer, who told stories about the truth, light and dark, to children and adults alike, died Tuesday in Danbury, Conn. He had had a stroke four days before.
