Jun 6th 2012, 18:49

In addition to the traditional hoagies and fireworks, the lineup of events for this year’s Wawa Welcome America celebration will serve up attractions appealing to cross-generational audiences.A free outdoor screening of The Great Gatsby in Rittenhouse Square on June 25 at 9 p.m. will assist in kicking off Welcome America. Event organizers said Wednesday that a limited number of tickets will be available to the public to preview The Amazing Spiderman, before its July 3 nationwide release. No date has been set for the indoor screening at Rave Motion Pictures in University City. The Roots Mural Project will combine the talents of six local artists and celebration attendees, who will be able to paint portions of a mural that officials plan to apply to a wall in South Philadelphia in October. A wall has not yet been selected. Participants can paint a portion of the mural on the Independence Center’s lawn on July 3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
