A new place for Quakers

Quakers, famous for their modesty, expect worldwide attention when they open their first new Friends meetinghouse in 80 years at 20 E. Mermaid Lane, Chestnut Hill, with a “Skyspace” designed by famed artist (and Quaker) James Turrell. The installation is a luminous chamber with an aperture in the ceiling for visitors to view the sky. Ground was broken Tuesday by members of the Chestnut Hill Friends Meetinghouse, just up the hill from the new location, and by city officials.
